My Story

My Son

My son suffers from both Borderline Personality Disorder and Severe Alcohol Use Disorder. In 2023 he nearly died of liver failure at the age of twenty-five. After multiple alcohol-use relapses and over twenty trips to the hospital, he finally checked into an alcohol and drug abuse treatment center. Upon processing, he suffered a violent seizure and spent two more nights in the hospital before he was able to enter the facility. My son then left after only one week of treatment and showed up at my door.

Upon his subsequent relapse, I took him back to the hospital. His tolerance level was so high due to his heavy drinking that the Ativan didn't sedate him and he broke out of a 4-point restraint. My son then spent seven nights in the ICU, where he was monitored 24/7 so he wouldn't slip into a coma from the high levels of Phenobarbital.

While he was sedated, I spoke to the psychiatric staff, the medical doctors, several top conservatorship attorneys in the area, and the courthouse. Not one of them one had heard of the Marchment Act.

My Son Is Not Alone

Since talking to Mayor Franklin of Manhattan Beach, CA and doing a lot of research, I've become well-informed about The CARE Court Program or CARE Act in California, which is the equivalent of the Marchman Act in Florida.

Please join me in spreading the word about the CARE Act and the Marchman Act. My son is far from the only one suffering from mental illness and co-occurring substance abuse. We need your help.
